Paramount+ Officially Moving Forward with Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Series

A year ago, it was reported that Paramount+ was developing a new Star Trek series titled Star Trek: Starfleet Academy as part of their expansion of the franchise. Since then, we haven't heard any updates about the project and now we finally have exciting news regarding its development.

According to Deadline, Paramount+ has officially given an official green light to Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. Secret Hideout, Roddenberry Entertainment, and CBS Studios are behind the series. Production is expected to begin next year.

This news comes as Star Trek: Picard is coming to an end in a few weeks while the next season of Star Trek: Discovery was officially confirmed to be its final season. Before this announcement, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds was the only live-action series that is expected to remain on the air as it was also renewed for a third season.

The series will introduce a young group of cadets who come together to pursue a common dream of hope and optimism. Under the watchful and demanding eyes of their instructors, they will discover what it takes to become Starfleet officers as they navigate blossoming friendships, explosive rivalries, first loves, and a new enemy that threatens both the Academy and the Federation itself.

Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau will serve as co-showrunners of the series and will also executive produce alongside Gaia Violo, Aaron Baiers, Jenny Lumet, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth, Frank Siracusa, and John Weber. Violo also wrote the pilot episode.

This is exciting news for Star Trek fans since another new show is coming to the franchise and they'll get to see more Trek content even after Picard and Discovery end their run. However, it is unclear yet what kind of timeline will the series be set in and whether it is connected to any of the previous shows.

For now, you can catch new episodes of Star Trek: Picard season 3 every Thursday on Paramount+. You can check more details about it here.
