It has been a while since the last news about the Overlord anime. Finally, fans will get more news as the Overlord: The Holy Kingdom movie will get new information in an upcoming New Year program.
The program will air on the first of January, though it is going to be a short broadcast. Still, it should be welcome news for fans of the series, especially considering how it has been over a year since the teaser was released.
What Happened to the Overlord Anime Film?
Overlord is a popular isekai series by Kugane Maruyama that was adapted into an anime by Madhouse. The anime’s fourth season is its latest, and it aired in the Summer 22 season.
During that season, Overlord: The Holy Kingdom got its first teaser video and visual that give fans a small taste of what to expect.
The film itself was announced way back in May 2021. Aside from the initial announcement and the teaser release in 2022, there has been no word on the upcoming movie.
That’s not to say that the film is canceled. After all, the anime series also has fairly long gaps. For instance, it took nearly four years for the fourth season to be released.
Thankfully, fans won’t have to wait much longer because a new update is finally coming in just a bit over a week.

Overlord: The Holy Kingdom Movie Is Finally Getting New Info in the New Year Program
An Overlord program was revealed via the show’s official X (formerly Twitter) account. The announcement came with a special visual of Ainz Ooal Gown, Demiurge, and Albedo in kimonos.
It was also confirmed that the stream will feature the voice actors of the three characters. These include Satoshi Hino (Ainz), Masayuki Kato (Demiurge), and Yumi Hara (Albedo).
This program is scheduled on January 1, 2024, from 9:00 PM to 9:30 PM JST (7:00 AM to 7:30 AM Eastern Time). Even though it’ll only be a 30-minute show, it promises to share new details about the film.
Overlord’s New Year program will air on TOKYO MX. The entire program will also be released at a later date on the KADOKAWA Anime Channel, though it’s not clear if it will be available with English subtitles.
Even if it will initially be available in Japan only, the fact that new info will be shared should be enough to delight international Overlord fans. Fingers are crossed that the series at least reveals the film’s release window.
