True Detective: Night Country gives us a supernatural mystery. As the show progresses, we're getting close to finally learning what happened to the Tsalal researchers. A recent episode, however, introduces us to a new character. Let's talk about Otis Heiss and Raymond Clark in True Detective: Night Country.
Who is Otis Heiss? True Detective's Latest Suspect
Otis Heiss may have been absent in the previous episodes of True Detective: Night Country, but his entry in Episode 4 Night Country: Part 4 puts him as a key suspect. This is particularly true since he was found wearing Raymond Clark's coat.
Let's go over who Otis Heiss is and his connection to Raymond Clark in True Detective: Night Country.
Otis Heiss (played by Klaus Tange) is a German national who sustained the same injuries as the Tsalal researchers did: ruptured eardrums, burnt corneas, and self-inflicted bite wounds. Despite these injuries, however, it's a surprise that Heiss survived them.
A police file reveals that Heiss sustained these injuries in April 1998. Unfortunately, Heiss has no records. His social security has also been inactive since November 2006 and no address has been attached to his name in the last eight years.
Ever since the accident, Heiss became a junkie. He has also been in and out of rehab several times. There's also a long history of disorderly conduct to his name. The last time police spotted Heiss was two months ago. The police also discover that Heiss is the one who mapped the cave systems.
It also didn't help that there is very little information on Heiss' accident. Still, Chief Liz Danvers (played by Jodie Foster) believes Heiss could be with Raymond Clark (played by Owen McDonnell). The police are told to include Heiss in their search for Clark.

Why Did Otis Have Raymond Clark's Coat?
Someone eventually spots Clark in an abandoned factory. But as Liz catches this person, they discover that it's Heiss--wearing Clark's coat.
This very coat actually belonged to the murdered Annie Kowtok (played by Nivi Pedersen). So it's a mystery how Heiss got this coat.
A frightened Heiss tells the police that Clark is now hiding in the Night Country. He later says that they are all in the Night Country.
What Happened to Raymond Clark? What We Know So Far
Raymond Clark was one of the scientists working at the Tsalal Arctic Research Station. But he is nowhere from the frozen corpses that the police found in the earlier part of the show.
Liz and Peter Prior (played by Finn Bennett) also discovered that Clark was acting weird before the scientists disappeared. A video footage of him was also quoted saying "She's awake."
They also learned that Clark had a spiral tattoo on his chest. When they find the tattoo artist, they learn that Annie has the same tattoo and is posing with Clark.
Even though Trooper Evangeline Navarro (played by Kali Reis) knew everything about Annie, she did not know the two were in a relationship.
Unfortunately, the police are still looking for Clark.
