It has been nearly two months now since its release, and the song continues to be a chart-topper. In fact, the Oshi no Ko opening song Idol by YOASOBI has now reached the number one spot on the Billboard chart.

Specifically, YOASOBI’s latest hit song has just topped the Billboard Global chart excluding the US, meaning it’s the biggest song in the world that’s not by an American artist.

Given this, it has easily become one of the duo’s biggest songs ever.

Even before Oshi no Ko, YOASOBI was already one of Japan’s biggest music groups. After all, their hit song Racing Into the Night was a huge hit in 2020 during the early months of the pandemic.

Since then, YOASOBI continued to release more hit songs, with the duo even being tapped to perform the opening of Beastars Season 2 as well as Gundam: The Witch from Mercury.

This year, YOASOBI released the song Idol for Oshi no Ko, and while many were hyped for it even before its release, its success blew away expectations.

Shortly after the official music video was released, it got millions of views.

Now, it has become one of the duo’s most viewed videos on YouTube, and it might even be on track to become their most popular on the platform.

Aside from YouTube, the song has also topped Japan’s Billboard and Spotify charts.

Even now, it seems that the song’s popularity is showing no signs of slowing down.

On Twitter, Billboard recently revealed the Global Excl. U.S. Top 10 list dated June 10, and there, Idol took the top spot.

What’s impressive is that it toppled the song Cupid by K-pop group Fifty Fifty, which is another viral hit, especially on platforms like TikTok.

Of course, this chart does not count songs from the US, but what’s even more impressive is that on the Global 200 chart, YOASOBI’s song is still part of the Top 10.

Specifically, Idol is ranked 9th on the Global 200 chart for the week of June 10, indicating the global success of the song.

Soon, the song will get a CD release in Japan. While there’s no word yet on whether there will also be a CD release for Idol in the US, there is an English version of the song that’s out now on streaming platforms.
