While the anime’s first season has already ended, the dub version is only in the middle of its run. However, there are Oshi no Ko fans that have heavily criticized the dub, and now, Akane Kurokawa’s English VA has responded.
Though the show premiered in April, only the Japanese version was streamed at that time. But in late May, HIDIVE began streaming the show’s English dub version.
Responses to the dub were varied, but the latest episode saw an uptick in criticism against it following Akane’s big moment in Episode 7.
Akane Kurokawa English Dub Voice Criticized by Fans
Oshi no Ko was already fairly popular before its anime adaptation was released.
After the anime began airing though, the series’ popularity exploded as it became one of the biggest anime of the season.
Aside from its engaging story and great animation, fans also praised the Japanese voice cast for their performances. Given this, the pressure was on for the English dub cast.
Following the dub’s broadcast though, the English version got criticized by some fans, though there were viewers who were fine with it.
With the release of the latest episode, more viewers shared their thoughts on the dub cast’s performances.
Specifically, criticism was directed towards Akane Kurokawa's voice actress during the last scene of Episode 7.
According to some viewers, the English dub version was too loud and cheery, with some stating that the Japanese version’s more natural take was better.

Oshi no Ko’s Akane English Dub VA Responds to Criticism
Sadly, it seems that some viewers have taken the criticisms of the dub cast too far, enough that the show’s cast had to respond.
After the episode’s release, Akane dub VA Kristen McGuire shared on her personal Twitter account how tough it is for voice actors who still get hate even after giving their best on a project.
Despite the criticisms towards her performance, some fans expressed their appreciation for McGuire’s performance. Some have also decried the exceedingly hateful viewers.
What’s ironic about this situation is that it happened to Akane’s voice actress.
After all, Akane was a victim of cyberbullying herself, so it’s sad that a certain section of the show’s viewers doesn’t seem to have learned from the anime’s events.
Though this might not be a surprise to some. After all, even the mother of Hana Kimura (whose circumstances are believed to be an inspiration for Akane’s storyline) got hated on herself by certain Oshi no Ko fans.
