Original Zombieland Cast Officially Returning for the Sequel

It took more than a decade, but the sequel to 2009's Zombieland is finally coming. Ruben Fleischer is set to direct once more, and good news is, the main cast of the original is set to come back as well.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin are all set to make a return. Columbia Pictures president Sanford Panitch said in a statement:

"This is one of those projects that fans have wanted to see happen for a long time — and no one wanted to see it happen more than Emma, Woody, Jesse and Abigail… These are some of the most in-demand actors, and I think they are making this movie because they love these characters. We are thrilled Ruben was willing to come back to direct the sequel, as his work on Venom has been truly amazing."

Not only are the original Zombieland director and actors coming back for the sequel. They're also working on a script that came from the original writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick as well.

The film was considered a sleeper hit when it came out and made $75 million out of its $24 mil budget. The critics absolutely loved the film, and it gained cult status after release. How can you not, with a death scene as hilarious as this:

For now, Fleischer seems to be gearing up for promotion for Sony's Venom, but hopefully he gets right to work on Zombieland 2 afterwards. We don't have an official synopsis for the movie yet, but a rumor went out last May that the story could involve Little Rock running away, and the gang trying to recover her while on the run from ‘super zombies'

Zombieland 2 is set for a release October 2019.
