Original Hellboy Star Ron Perlman Doubts He’ll Try For Other Superhero Franchises

Hellboy star Ron Perlman might be free to take on other superhero franchises now that Millennium's decided to take in Stranger Things star David Harbour as its new Unwilling Harbinger of the Apocalypse, but it looks like the actor doubts he's going to take on another comic book movie soon.

Speaking in an interview with Comicbook.com, Perlman said that as much as fans would probably love to see him in another comic book franchise, he just really doesn't have that much interest in superheroes.

According to the actor that many Hellboy fans consider as the big screen definition of the Right Hand of Doom, the only reason that he found his way to Hellboy was that director Guillermo del Toro had introduced him to the character. Outside of that, Perlman says he isn't quite sure whether he should be even considering taking on another superhero role especially at his age of 68.

"Well, I'm not much of a comic book dude, so I don't know who's really out there," Perlman shared with the publication. "I didn't find Hellboy, Guillermo [del Toro] found Hellboy and Guillermo just introduced Hellboy to me and infused me with his boyish fanboy obsession with the character. That's what got me through that one. No, there's no comic book character that I have identified that I'm dying to play. Plus, I don't know if, at 68, I should even be educating the notion of superheroes anymore."

Of course, Perlman would have wanted to reprise his role as the great Beast of the Apocalypse in Hellboy 3, and fans would have wanted the same thing too. Unfortunately, the project never found its footing, and instead Millennium decided to reboot the franchise with Neil Marshall at the helm.

Though fans were rather upset by Millennium's decision, they eventually warmed up to Harbour's version of the character when they saw how the Stranger Things star looked like as Hellboy. Then, there's also the fact that Marshall has been promising a comic book –accurate version of the movie too. There's nothing wrong with a little good change, really.

Hellboy premieres on April 12, 2019.
