The Only Murders in the Building Season 3 teaser dropped during the Oscars, and it showed Meryl Streep as a "surprise you never saw coming."

The Hulu show portrays the exploits of three strangers, Charles, Oliver, and Mabel, played by Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez, respectively.

We don't learn much about Streep's character, but she is seen seated at what appears to be a table read for the show fans saw during the one-year time leap in the Season 2 finale, titled Bye Bye Buffalo.

Only Murders in the Building Season 3 Teaser

The third season begins where the first two left off, with the trio trying to figure out who killed Ben Glenroy (Paul Rudd). Streep's addition to the ensemble was initially announced in an Instagram video Gomez uploaded online.

In the Only Murders in the Building Season 3 teaser, an on-stage actor (Paul Rudd) dies unexpectedly, causing Charles (Martin), Oliver (Short), and Mabel (Gomez) to take up the case. With all of the processes involved in the ongoing inquiry, the ensemble is seen taking care of critical documents when the audience is introduced to Streep's presently nameless character.

The actor could also be seen in this segment of the video, having been promoted from a cameo in the second season to a series regular in the upcoming third season.

Meryl Streep's Oscar-Worthy Addition

Streep, one of Hollywood's most acclaimed actresses, has made significant contributions to the film industry throughout her career. Streep has won three Academy Awards and has been nominated for a record-breaking 21 Oscars.

Streep's breakout role was in the 1978 film The Deer Hunter, which earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
