Comedy titan Steve Martin made comments hinting at possible retirement. While it wouldn't be surprising if he retired, given he's already 77, it raises the question of whether or not he'll stick around for Only Murders in the Building Season 3.

What to Expect in Only Murders in the Building Season 3

Only Murders in the Building Season 3 has been made official by Hulu. While very little is known about the third season's plot thus far, Season 2 concluded on a big cliffhanger with Marvel actor Paul Rudd.

Rudd appeared as an actor in a new show directed by Short's character and starring Martin's character in the Season 2 finale. Only Murders in the Building Season 3 may take the group out of the Arconia and into New York City to explore a greater mystery, as Rudd's character was killed onstage.

Is Steve Martin Retiring After Only Murders in the Building?

The Hulu comedy Only Murders in the Building stars Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez. After someone is murdered in their building, the three actors play an odd trio who live in a New York apartment building and start a true crime podcast. The show has completed its second season and was nominated for several Primetime Emmys.

Martin was recognized for his work in the series, indicating that the actor hasn't lost his comedic abilities. However, in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actor stated that he will not "seek" further movies or TV shows until Only Murders concludes.

"I don't want to do cameos. This is, weirdly, it," Martin said. "I have a family life that's really fun. To film a movie now, to go someplace else to live, I'm not willing to do that anymore. I can't disappear for three months."

Does that Mean Steve Martin Won't Appear in Only Murders in the Building Season 3?

The actor was questioned about his recent remarks on his retirement on the Emmys red carpet. Martin provided a slightly unclear response, stating that he is not actively looking for new roles but nonetheless engaged in other activities.

"It's a little overstated," Martin told People. "They asked me, 'Do you think about retirement?' I said, 'Well this is it. I'm doing a television show, I've got a book coming out and I'm touring with [Short]. That kind of is my retirement — that's what it's going to look like.'"

"I can't imagine him ever retiring," Short adds. "I hope not because then you know what happens to me."
