Steve Martin and John Hoffman created only Murders in the Building. The first season of the series introduced us to three unlikely friends who bonded over their love for murder mysteries. Their friendship and sleuthing skills are put to the test when another tenant in Arconia is murdered, and they take it upon themselves to solve the mystery of the crime.

Only Murders in the Building became an instant hit because of its humor and unique story that appealed to audiences from many generations, so its not surprising that it was renewed for a second season.

Only Murders in the Building Season 2 Release Date: When Will the Hulu Series Come Out?

Only Murders in the Building Season 2 came out on Hulu on June 28, 2022, a Tuesday. A new episode will come out each succeeding Tuesday after the release date.

Steve Martin, one of the show's primary stars, posted on his Twitter that the show's production started on December 1, 2021, and may have lasted sometime before March 25, 2022, when the show's final debut date for the show was announced.

Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez return to play the resident murder-mystery-loving trio of Arconia, a chic New York apartment complex. Martin plays Charles Haden-Savage, a former TV actor who starred in a hit series, and Charles is now unemployed and finds himself very unsatisfied with his life. Short plays Oliver Putnam, a retired and unsuccessful theatrical director with money problems. Gomez completes the trio with her character, Mabel Mora, an interior design artist currently living in her aunt's apartment while renovating it.

The other actors from season 1 who will be returning are Jackie Hoffman as Uma and Michael Cyril Creighton as Howard. Jane Houdyshell will also return as Bunny, albeit as a memory (or as a ghost) because of the premise of the new season.

Charles, Oliver, and Mabel are soon joined by new faces. Model and Paper Towns star Cara Delevingne was cast to play Alice, described as a sophisticated art world insider who becomes enmeshed in the mystery." Alice also becomes Mabel's love interest. Alice is one of three characters announced earlier. We will also see a character named Lucy, the 16-year-old daughter of Charles' ex-girlfriend. Lucy has changed since she last saw Charles, but she could be the answer to some of the most pressing questions in this new mystery. The third announced character is a woman named Nina Kim. Nina is a 30-year-old, very pregnant, very affluent woman who uses Bunny's absence to her advantage to become the new Board President of Arconia.

Aside from Delevingne, Andrea Martin and Zoe Colletti were also cast for the show, but their characters are still unannounced. Chances are, Zoe Colletti will be playing Lucy, but judgment is still out whether or not Andrea Martin will be playing Nina Kim.

There are other award-winning comedians in season 2's cast. Amy Schumer also joins the cast playing herself. Shirley MacLaine also joins the cast as Bunny's grieving mother.

Only Murders in the Building Season 2 Plot: What Will be the Plot of the Crime Series?

Hulu released the official synopsis for Only Murders in the Building Season 2:

Following the shocking death of Arconia Board President Bunny Fogler, Charles, Oliver, & Mabel race to unmask her killer. However, three (unfortunate) complications ensue -- the trio is publicly implicated in Bunny's homicide. They are now subjects of a competing podcast, and they have to deal with a bunch of New York neighbors who all think they committed murder.

Only Murders in the Building Season 2 will revolve around the murder of the Bunny and how Charles, Oliver, and Mabel work together to clear their names from suspicion. The trio finds it hard to prove their innocence because someone is planting incriminating evidence in their apartments.

Hoffman confirmed that season 2 will teach us more about the history and architecture of Arconia and the surrounding places, as the new season will now feature locations outside of the apartment complex.

We will also get to know the main characters more as we meet important people from their past lives, either as flashbacks or as new characters in the show.
