One Popular Marvel Hero was Supposed to Debut in Avengers: Infinity War

Avengers: Infinity War might have been littered with superheroes, however, the film was supposed to make room for one more – Nova.

While there was an overwhelming number of established heroes in the first installment of Joe and Anthony Russo's two-part Avengers movie, Cinema Blend says that one draft of the script included a hero that had yet to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

According to the entertainment news outlet, an early draft of Infinity War included the appearance of Nova, and it looks like the cosmic defender was supposed to take on a crucial role in the film. The character was supposed to debut during a sequence featuring Thanos' (Josh Brolin) attack on Xandar.

Instead of the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Nova is the one who crashes into Earth and warns the Avengers of Thanos' plans to collect the Infinity Stones and turn half of the universe into Dust.

Unfortunately, Infinity War screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely decided against Nova's appearance – it wouldn't make that much sense to have the hero make his debut after taking Xandar out of the picture.

"It was an early idea, but we just reached a critical mass of new characters, and after we got rid of the Xandar sequence, it didn't make much sense," the writers said during an Infinity War watch party.

It's such a shame that McFeely and Markus decided against Nova's appearance. Being tied to the Nova Corps, Nova would have had an organic entry into the MCU had the writers pushed through with the character's debut.

A lot of Marvel fans have long been hoping for Nova to make his MCU debut. Many were hoping that the character would appear in Guardians of the Galaxy or in the film's sequel.

We'll just have to wait and see whether the character appears in GOTG 3.
