Who Is Luffy’s Mother in One Piece?
Luffy's mother is still a mystery in One Piece as of writing. She has yet to appear in either the anime or manga series, and it appears that Eiichiro Oda will not introduce her to the world anytime soon.
We know very little about Luffy's mother, but that doesn't mean we can't speculate about who she is and when she will appear in the story.
What is certain is that the appearance of Luffy's mother in One Piece will once again astound the anime community.
However, Mayumi Tanaka, Luffy's voice actress, revealed that Eiichiro Oda was not interested in delving into the story of Luffy's birth mother.
This information connects with Oda's comment in an SBS edition that the word "mother" is the opposite of "adventure."
So far, we know that Dadan became Luffy's mother figure after she decided to care for him.
Dadan goes above and beyond to care for Luffy, and she will always be remembered as a mother figure to our beloved future Pirate King.
Will Luffy’s Mother Appear in One Piece?
Due to the previous statements and comments made by Eiichiro Oda, it seems like Luffy’s mother will never make an appearance in One Piece.
But with the way things are going, it seems inevitable that she will be introduced in the series sometime in the future.
Although Luffy's mother had no influence on her son's grand pirate adventure, she did have a significant impact on Monkey D. Dragon's life and, most likely, Garp's.
If she does make an appearance, it will most likely be in a flashback from Dragon's early years.
However, in Chapter 1057 of the One Piece manga, the series may have finally introduced the world to Luffy's mother.
The first page of this chapter features a promotional image for One Piece Film: Red with the caption "Parents' Meeting," and we see Shanks reunited with his adopted daughter, Uta.
We then see a scene in which Shanks' crew is eating and becomes irritated by the cries of a much younger Uta.
To keep her from crying, the crew decides to start dancing in front of Uta, and their efforts are rewarded.
But it's the panel where we see a mysterious woman singing a child to sleep that drew our attention.
She could be related to the parenting decision Shanks and the crew made to keep Uta from crying. This singing lady is said to be Luffy's mother, and the child she is holding is Luffy himself.
If this rumor is true, then Shanks might have known something about Luffy’s mother. Perhaps he’s the only one who knows what happened to her, where she ran off to, and why she disappeared.

What Are the Theories About Luffy’s Mother?
Since Luffy’s mother is so mysterious, fans take their theories online to discuss her identity.
It’s fun browsing and reading through some of them, as everyone has different but interesting assumptions about her. Some may sound ridiculous, but some are rational as well!
Here are some of the theories regarding Luffy’s mother:
Luffy's Mother Is a Snake Princess
Luffy’s mother is said to be one of the former rulers of Amazon Lily. If this is true, Kuma (who knows Luffy’s ties with Dragon) intentionally sent Luffy to the island.
If the tribe were to learn that Luffy is a descendant of a previous snake princess, it would make sense if they decided to join forces with Luffy in the final battle.
Perhaps Luffy will also be the bridge that allows the tribe to coexist with other races.
Luffy's Mother Is Garp's Daughter
It is said that Luffy’s mother is actually Garp’s daughter. This theory argues that Garp never explicitly called Dragon his son, leading supporters to claim that Garp has a daughter instead.
If this is true, Garp’s daughter might have died from injustice committed by the World Government, which is why he was so adamant about keeping Luffy on the safe side by becoming a marine.
Luffy's Mother Is Called Lucy
Lucy is the name of Luffy’s mother, as foreshadowed by his gladiator name and number.
This theory states that she had the same ideals and aspirations as Luffy, so she ended up being a criminal, leading to her encounter with Dragon. They fell in love, and then they had Luffy.
Luffy's Mother Is a Celestial Dragon
Another theory argues that Luffy’s mother is a celestial dragon who had a forbidden love with a dragon.
However, something bad happened between the two of them, which led to their separation and made Dragon turn against the Celestial Dragons. This might explain the hatred Dragon has against the Celestial Dragons.
Luffy Has the Same Mother as Nico Robin
Nico Robin’s mother, Olvia, is the mother of Luffy, which makes them siblings. This might explain why Robin was able to easily understand Luffy on an emotional level.
In addition, Dragon was shown to be personally hurt by the incident in Ohara, which made some people think they became lovers at some point.
Luffy's Mother Is a Red-Haired Pirate
Luffy’s mother was a member of Shanks’ pirate crew, leading believers to imagine that Luffy was born on his ship.
Afterward, Shanks made a promise to Luffy’s mother to take care of him like an uncle or father figure to her son.
Luffy's Mother Is Crocodile
Lastly, Luffy’s mother is Crocodile. It sounds ridiculous at first, but, accordingly, Crocodile was originally a woman who was turned into a man thanks to Ivankov’s gender-changing hormone.
It supports the rumors that Oda says Luffy’s mother has already made an appearance in the manga, but it’s still not confirmed whether Oda really said it in the past.
