The Straw Hats Pirates are here! Netflix has announced the main cast of the upcoming One Piece live-action series adaptation. The young actors were also welcomed into the team by getting awesome shirts designed for them by creator Eiichiro Oda!
The announcement video was shared by Netflix Geeked and it features the cast introducing themselves. They then confirm which character they will be playing in the upcoming One Piece series. Interestingly, the actors are all wearing the same shirt which features the Straw Hats. It is then revealed that the shirt was designed by Eiichiro Oda himself. Check it out below.
Netflix Geeked also shared new photos of the cast members. Newcomer Iñaki Godoy will play Monkey D. Luffy while Rurouni Kenshin: The Final star Mackenyu Arata has been cast as Roronoa Zoro. Emily Rudd from Fear Street: Part Two - 1978 will portray the crew's navigator Nami, Greenleaf's Jacob Romero Gibson was cast as the sniper Usopp and Villain star Taz Skylar will play Vinsmoke Sanji.
The casting news is huge for fans who have been waiting for updates on the live-action One Piece series. Although the show was expected to begin production in Cape Town last year, it has since been delayed due to COVID-19. However, it looks like the adaptation is finally moving forward now that the Straw Hats Pirates are complete.
The first season of the One Piece live-action series will reportedly adapt the East Blue story arc. This could be confirmed by the image of the screenplay which is titled Romance Dawn, which also happens to be the manga's first chapter.
The series Monkey D. Luffy, an aspiring pirate who sets off on a journey to find the One Piece and become the Pirate King. He meets the future crew members along the way and together, they become known as the Straw Hats Pirates.
One Piece has not yet been given an official release date. However, the series is expected to premiere on Netflix. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
