After much anticipation, Luffy’s Gear 5 form will finally debut in the One Piece anime this August, as revealed by a notable One Piece content creator.
It has been a quiet couple of weeks for One Piece fans, at least for manga readers, given that creator Eiichiro Oda has gone on a fairly long break for his surgery. But the coming weeks will be different.
Aside from the upcoming anniversary celebration, fans will soon get to see the long-awaited Gear 5 in anime form in Episode 1071.

Luffy’s Gear 5 Is Finally Appearing in the Anime After Over a Year
The One Piece manga made waves last year when Luffy unlocked his Gear 5 form while fighting Kaido.
While new Gear forms are always a highlight, Gear 5 is the biggest as it is Luffy’s biggest transformation yet.
Even though the anime is over a year behind the manga story-wise, pretty much every One Piece fan has seen Gear 5 already (even those who are anime-only fans).
This is because Gear 5 has been shown in plenty of promotional materials.
For instance, the upcoming One Piece Day 2023 anniversary celebration’s main highlight is Gear 5 as it appears in the official trailer and visual for it.
These suggest that the anniversary event will give fans a look at Gear 5 in the anime ahead of its proper TV debut.
Though eagle-eyed fans should have already spotted the form’s teaser during One Piece Film: Red.
In the film, Luffy is shown activating Gear 5, albeit from a distance, but this isn’t exactly its canon debut.

One Piece Episode 1071 to Reportedly Feature Luffy’s Gear 5 Debut
Toei Animation hasn’t yet made an official announcement, but notable One Piece content creator @newworldartur shared on Twitter that the anime’s Gear 5 episode will be released on August 6, 2023.
Following his post, the reveal was corroborated by several well-known One Piece leakers.
Specifically, Episode 1071 will feature Luffy’s Gear 5 activation, according to the leakers.
Meanwhile, Episode 1072 will reportedly feature the biggest moments of Luffy and Kaido’s fight during the Wano Country arc’s climax.
Given this report, next month will be huge for One Piece fans. Aside from Gear 5, the Netflix live-action series will also be released in late August.
