With the show’s premiere just a week away, Netflix continues to hype up the upcoming series with new screenshots. The latest One Piece live-action screenshots show the look of the transponder snails, which got some questionable reactions.

One Piece is one of the most popular anime/manga of all time, so it makes sense that Netflix is giving it the live-action treatment.

Instead of dreading the show’s release, most fans are excited to see if it captures Eiichiro Oda’s story and world well – a far cry from most other live-action adaptations.

One Piece Fans Are Surprisingly Excited for the Live-Action Series

Live-action anime adaptations have a bad reputation among fans, especially as most of them are rather poor in quality. Take for instance the Cowboy Bebop live-action show which even the anime’s original creator criticized.

These adaptations being panned is no surprise given how difficult it is to translate manga or anime into live-action, especially ones that are fantastical in nature. This is why adaptations that work are mostly grounded dramas.

Despite the bad rap of live-action versions, many One Piece fans are cautiously optimistic or even excited about Netflix’s upcoming show.

While it’s hard to fully capture the incredible world that Eiichiro Oda created for the series, it seems that a lot of care and attention has been given to translating it into live-action.

It also helps that, based on interviews, the show’s cast and staff are big fans of One Piece and want to do right by the beloved series.

Plus, it doesn’t hurt that Oda himself is heavily involved in the series and that he says there were no compromises made to the show.

One Piece Live-Action Transponder Snails Get Hilarious and Questionable Reactions

As the show’s release inches ever closer, Netflix gave fans their best look yet at the transponder snails (or the Den Den Mushi in Japanese). These snails basically serve as telephones in the One Piece world.

In creating the design for live-action, it seems that the show went for an interesting hybrid between cartoony and realistic.

After Netflix shared the new images, some fans replied with some weirdly sexually charged comments that were joking in nature (at least, we hope they’re joking), to which Netflix replied in the funniest way possible.

For the most part, responses to the transponder snail designs are positive. Some are calling them hideous but perfect for the series.

As for the rest of the series, fans will need to wait just one more week to find out if the One Piece live-action show is a worthy adaptation.
