After much anticipation, Luffy’s Gear 5 is finally here. One Piece Episode 1071 finally featured the proper debut of Luffy’s Gear 5 form in the anime, and fans are loving his cartoony, Looney Tunes style.
Over the last few weeks, One Piece fans have been eagerly anticipating Luffy’s latest Gear form. After all, this is arguably the biggest moment of the Wano Country arc.
Much like in the manga, Gear 5 did not disappoint in the anime as Toei Animation went all-out for this epic debut.

One Piece Breaks the Internet With Luffy’s Gear 5 Debut
It has been over seven years since Luffy debuted his Gear 4 form in the Dressrosa arc. Finally, Luffy entered yet another power-up in his fight against Kaido in the latest One Piece episode.
The Gear 5 moment happened in the manga last year, and since then, it has become an iconic moment in the series. Not only is the transformation a perfect fit for Luffy but Gear 5 also has big implications story-wise.
After over a year, Luffy’s Gear 5 finally appeared in the One Piece anime, not counting its blink-or-you’ll-miss-it appearance in One Piece Film: Red.
There was a lot of hype heading into the latest episode, but based on fans’ reactions, the Gear 5 debut did not disappoint.
Many showered the scene with praise, saying how perfectly the anime captured the iconic moment.
Unsurprisingly, this new episode pretty much broke the internet as Gear 5 and One Piece became huge trending topics on Twitter, Reddit, and other social media sites.
On top of being a huge trending topic, it seemed that the latest episode literally broke Crunchyroll servers as some fans on Reddit reported that they couldn’t access the site when the episode was released.

Fans Think Gear 5 Turned Luffy Into a Looney Tunes Character
It may not be a surprise for manga readers, but anime-only fans were surprised (and impressed) by how cartoony Luffy’s new form is.
Specifically, many viewers likened Gear 5’s look and ability to Looney Tunes. What’s more, the episode features sound effects that are straight out of a Looney Tunes cartoon.
While some were taken aback by how unserious Luffy looked, others responded by saying that Luffy has always been a cartoony character. This made Gear 5 a perfect fit for him.
