Specifically, the announcement was made during the USC Trojans Football Team’s season opener and shared on the Toei Animation Twitter account.

While it’s an unusual event to make an announcement, it was a special reveal as the Spirit of Troy marching band performed songs from the film.

Luffy’s English voice actor also had a special introduction during the announcement after the film’s October 2022 release date was flashed on the screen.

Previously, the film’s US release was confirmed to be in Fall 2022 alongside other countries, including Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand.

Based on speculation by the noted One Piece news account @newworldartur, the movie may also be released in the aforementioned countries this October.

The movie premiered during One Piece Day back in July, with lucky fans in attendance being the first in the world to see it. This was followed by a wider cinema release in Japan on August 6.

Shortly after its Japanese release, Film: Red was screened in cinemas in select countries and regions, including France, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Thailand.

One Piece Film: Red is the 15th feature film in the franchise, and it follows Luffy and the Straw Hat crew as they attend the concert of Uta, the world’s most popular singer.

The rest of the crew are in for a shocker though as Luffy reveals that Uta is the daughter of legendary pirate, Red-Hair Shanks.

Given the excitement behind it, as it features an appearance from Shanks, it is expected to bring in even more at the worldwide box office upon its US release.

While Film: Red is scheduled to release in October, there’s no official release date yet.
