Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Reveals That The Show Casts Fans as Extras

One of the upcoming Star Wars shows that is coming next year is Obi-Wan Kenobi which will mark the return of Ewan McGregor in the titular role years after playing him in the prequel trilogy. While the exact plot details are still under wraps, we do know that it will be set years before the original trilogy. Now, one of its stars shared an interesting tidbit about the series that may surprise you.

In an interview with the Just for Variety podcast, Obi-Wan Kenobi star Maya Erskine revealed that actual Star Wars fans were hired as extras in the series. She said, "The extras were incredible on the set, and a lot of them were mega Star Wars fans. One guy, he was so nice and he lifted up his sleeves and had Star Wars tattoos over his whole body. And they build droids. There are lot of Star Wars fans that build droids, and then the production companies will rent [them] from the fans."

The actress also shared that she shot her "speck" of a role after giving birth to her son. "I got to bring my baby to set," she said. "I wanted to wrap him in a shawl and have him pass as an extra in Star Wars." While she was tight-lipped about the exact details of her involvement in the series, she praised the people that she worked with, "Deborah Chow is an amazing director. The cast was incredible. It was so fun to do. My brother, who’s a mega-fan, was like, ‘If you don’t take this, I will disown you. You have to be part of this universe.'"

It is interesting to hear that the show hired actual fans to be extras in the series which just shows how the franchise loves the support that they are getting and they are letting them be involved in some capacity. We can safely assume that they have to sign an NDA in order to be part of the series and be tight-lipped about any spoilers. While this news didn't give us any significant details about the series, it is a great behind-the-scenes that we should keep in mind once we see the series.
