Obi-Wan Kenobi Series Premiere Will Coincide with A New Hope's 45th Anniversary

There's no doubt that Lucasfilm's streaming deal with Disney+ is one of the best things that happened to the Star Wars universe and the success of the MandoVerse has already solidified that. This May, however, the franchise is taking a short break from all the Mando action to give way to the highly-anticipated Obi-Wan Kenobi series which marks the triumphant returns of Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen.

Yesterday, Lucasfilm announced that the series will drop on Disney+ on May 25 but some fans were actually hoping that the production company would take advantage of the annual May the 4th celebration given it will fall on a Wednesday this year. Turns out, Obi-Wan Kenobi's official release date has a much deeper and sentimental meaning to it.

In case you weren't aware, Obi-Wan Kenobi will coincide with the 45th anniversary of the first-ever Star Wars film A New Hope which originally made its debut in a limited number of theaters in the United States on May 25, 1977. May 25th also happens to be recognized globally as Star Wars Day.

The fact that Obi-Wan's anticipated return to the Star Wars universe happens on the day he was first introduced 45 years ago is truly a full-circle moment and I can't wait to see how the franchise explores the aftermath of Revenge of the Sith. I don't know about you but this show may actually be bigger than The Mandalorian and it's surely a can't-miss affair.

Obi-Wan Kenobi will begin streaming on May 25, 2022, exclusively on Disney+.
