There might be very little information about what Lucasfilm has planned for its Obi-Wan Kenobi live-action series for Disney+, however, it seems like Star Wars prequel trilogy actor Ewan McGregor has decided to confirm a few details about the upcoming title – Obi-Wan Kenobi is going to use the same visual effects that Lucasfilm used working on Star Wars: The Mandalorian.
McGregor just recently spoke in an interview with ACE Universe to discuss the actor's return to the galaxy far, far away (via Comic Book Movie), and it seems like the Star Wars star just confirmed the series' filming procedure. According to McGregor, Obi-Wan Kenobi is employing the same kind of technology that fans get to see on The Mandalorian, meaning that the upcoming Star Wars series is going to be top-notch for Star Wars fans.
"I think I am going to enjoy it much more…(the prequels) were all blue screen and green screen and it was hard to imagine, but nowadays I think things have moved on so much, and I think a lot of what you see is gonna be what we see on the set," McGregor told the entertainment news outlet.
"I don't know if you've seen the behind-the-scenes of The Mandalorian series, but they employ that incredible screen…it's pretty amazing," the actor went on, "It makes you feel like you're in the place, it's going to feel realer for us as actors. And I think we'll be using some of that technology on our show."
For those who haven't been following the behind-the-scenes documentaries for The Mandalorian, Jon Favreau used Stagecraft tech in developing the series. Stagecraft tech uses a rear-projected LED screen to create a reactive environment used for an immersive real-time green screen – a great step up for CG tech in the new Star Wars series.
It looks like Lucasfilm wants the very best for Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Obi-Wan Kenobi has yet to receive a release date but we'll update fans as soon as we get word.
