Joe and Anthony Russo are getting their much-deserved break from the Marvel Cinematic Universe following the unprecedented success of Avengers: Endgame. Now, The Russo Brothers' status in the franchise remains unclear but the general assumption within the fandom is that the directing duo will be back to helm the franchise's next big crossover event which is reportedly going to be Secret Wars.
Recently, the MCU directors expressed their desire to make the adaptation of the iconic comic book storyline and it led to people automatically assuming that they were returning to the billion-dollar franchise to direct the film.
However, it looks like that isn't the case as Joe and Anthony claim that they haven't spoken to Kevin Feige or not yet, at least. When asked by MTV News correspondent Josh Horowitz about their potential involvement in the Secret Wars project, they simply said that "there are no conversations [with Marvel]".
Joe and Anthony also took the opportunity to say that they won't be present at Marvel Studios' San Diego Comic-Con panel this weekend despite the fandom's collective hopes.

Despite the Russo Brothers' latest denial, it doesn't exactly mean that they're closing their doors completely on the idea of helming a potential fifth Avengers film. If anything, it's an indication that Marvel Studios isn't in a hurry to adapt Secret Wars which makes complete sense considering Phase Four is still stacked with unreleased shows and films. As for the fandom, patience is the key.
Meanwhile, The Russo Brothers' latest project The Gray Man is now streaming on Netflix.
