Nicolas Cage Breaks Silence on Spider-Man Noir TV Series

Of the many Spider-Man variants to have been introduced in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Spider-Man Noir remains to be one of the best, given that he is not at all like Peter Parker, which makes him all the more unique as compared to the previous ones we’ve met in Sony’s Spider-Verse film.

However, in spite of this well-earned reputation rooting from the comic series, Spider-Man Noir is absent from reprising his role in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, which Nicolas Cage, who portrayed the character, addresses.

“You’d have to ask Sony,” Cage said in an interview with Screen Rant, “I don’t know what’s going on with that. No one’s spoken to me about that. Ask them. I don’t know. I really don’t. I wish they would. I love Spider-Man Noir, too. I think that’s a great character. Spider-Man’s the coolest superhero. And then you combine that with [James] Cagney and [Humphrey] Bogart and Edward G. Robinson, come on, it’s a great character.”

While it is quite unfortunate to see that Spider-Man Noir is not included in the ensemble for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, this won’t exactly mean this would be the last time we’ll ever see the character again. After all, Cage is more than willing to return to the role anytime he’s been called to the task. Who’s to say Spider-Man Noir won’t get his own show someday?

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is set to focus on a more intimate story between Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy’s Spider-Gwen, as previously teased by producer Amy Pascal. Considering that Miles is searching for his place in his universe, this becomes a timely piece of storyline for the sequel.

Not to mention, given that Spider-Verse 2 is also introducing a whole bunch of Spider-Man variants, even more dangerous ones as compared to its first film, so a Spider-Man Noir, whether or not they make an appearance in the sequel, would likely only get a few seconds of cameo on screen.

For now, Sony’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is currently slated to premiere this coming June 2. You can check out more details on the Spider-Verse sequel here.
