New The Prodigy Trailer Explores The Dangerous Side Of Genius

Sometimes being a genius can be a dangerous thing. The new trailer for The Prodigy reveals that an amazingly smart child could also be clever enough to get away with the perfect crime.

The trailer opens with the baby (played by It star Jackson Robert Scott) being able to say "Mama" right away. Needless to say, it impresses his father (Peter Mooney) and his mother (Taylor Schilling). The proud parents are increasingly aware of the child's brilliance as he grows. However, the little genius named Miles is also revealed to have a total disregard for the sanctity of life as he crushes a tiny spider.

From there, things get very serious. At one point, Miles asks his mom, "What's wrong with me?" Obviously, there's a lot that's not right about the kid who seems to have an air of confidence as he carries a heavy wrench. The mother eventually decides to bring him to a specialist (Colm Feore), who says what everyone has been dreading: "Miles is dangerous."

It's a dark and promising trailer that highlights the brilliance of the child but at the same time suggests that there are other forces involved with his actions. It also helps that Miles is played by Scott, who already had audiences terrified with his portrayal of little Georgie in It. Needless to say, this is one child star that we can expect to have an amazing career.

The horror flick is directed by Nicholas McCarthy, who is known for his other scary films The Pact and At The Devil's Door. It also features Brittany Allen and Oluniké Adeliyi.

The Prodigy will premiere on February 8.
