New Street Fighter Live-Action Film In the Works at Legendary Pictures

Street Fighter remains to be one of the most popular video games of all time and it has spawned a massive franchise for decades with multiple games, animated shows, comics, and live-action film adaptations in 1994 with Jean-Claude Van Damme and in 2009 with Kristin Kreuk as Chun-Li.

With the popularity of video game film and TV show adaptations nowadays, some fans are starting to wonder whether the Street Fighter property will be revisited and have another shot at bringing it to the big screen once again. Fortunately, that is going to be the case.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Legendary Pictures, the studio behind the Dune and MonsterVerse franchises, has nabbed the film and TV rights for the Street Fighter property. As a result, a new film adaptation of the video game is now in development at the studio.

With this new deal, Legendary will also work in tandem with Capcom for any future projects surrounding the property. It is unknown yet if a director, producer, or writer has been tapped to work on the new adaptation of the beloved video game.

This news also comes as a lot of studios, networks, and streamers have been chiming in on the rising trend of video game properties with titles such as The Last of Us, Uncharted, The Super Mario. Bros., and Mortal Kombat, which is also a fighting-oriented game just like Street Fighter.

As we're still learning about the details regarding this new endeavor, it should be exciting for fans of the game who might be hoping that the property will be given another shot and hopefully they'll do a much better adaptation of the game this time around.

It is interesting to see whether they can finally pull off a good film adaptation of Street Fighter and, with Legendary's involvement, the possibility is very promising as they have proved in their past films that they are capable of making well-received blockbusters.
