New Pokemon: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution Trailer Spotlights Ash, Brock, Team Rocket, and More

Pokemon: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution just got a new trailer and if you didn't like the new animation style before, this won't change your mind. That being said, the style has actually grown on some people and there are some scenes that actually look pretty solid. Honestly, this movie looks like the Pokemon equivalent of those live-action remakes, but with CG animation, which might be enough for some.

The story looks completely identical to the original Mewtwo Strikes Back, with a lot of familiar plot points from that movie being shown here. We have clone Pikachu slapping OG Pikachu, Team Rocket snooping around, Nurse Joy being controlled by Mewtwo, and so much more. This looks like the exact same story from the original, for better or worse.

At the least, we get better looks at the human characters, like Ash, Brock, Jessie, James, and possessed Nurse Joy. Despite being CGI, the animation on their faces are pretty impressive, though they don't look as good as that upcoming Dragon Quest movie. Still, those that want to watch Mewtwo Strikes Back in a new coat of paint should consider checking this out.

Pokemon: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution comes out on July 12 in Japan, with a later date likely coming for Western audiences. In Japan, if you pre-order tickets, a special code for a unique Mewtwo will be given to players who have Pokemon Let's Go.
