New Netflix Zombie Series Stars Drew Barrymore as an Upbeat Undead

Is The Walking Dead taking too long to get back? Are you looking for a more lighthearted take on what how zombies will act in the real world?

Well, from the looks of it, another Netflix original is about to give us quite an interesting series. Netflix has recently released the trailer for its new series, Santa Clarita Diet, and it stars the very familiar face of Drew Barrymore. Only this time, she's acting like a Stepford Housewife while eating human flesh.

Technically, she's a zombie, in that she's an undead who's still mobile. But instead of the creepy growling and dead skin falling off her bones, she looks normal. The only clue to her condition is her lack of a heartbeat, her changed diet, and, apparently, a boost in energy and confidence. It's amazing what death and zombification does to you.

To say that the idea is original is an understatement. Instead of getting creeped out and sending her character, Sheila Hammond, to the hills or putting a bullet through her skull, her husband and family support her—as if what she has is just another medical condition that needs social support to better push through.

That means slaying people together, watcher her blend human parts to mush for a slushie, and schedule kills as a family. It's funny how the idea of eating people can turn into an almost heroic act that can bond mother and child and husband and wife.

This is definitely going on my to-watch list. It's a great series to while the wait away until Stranger Things season 2 arrives.

Synopsis:

Joel and Sheila Hammond are realtors leading vaguely discontented lives in the L.A. suburb of Santa Clarita, until Sheila goes through a dramatic change sending both their lives down a road of death and destruction… but in a good way.

Santa Clarita Diet will premiere on Netflix on Feb. 3.
