New Luke Cage Trailer Introduces the Villain Bushmaster

Following the release of Jessica Jones 2, Netflix is gearing up for the second season of Luke Cage. A new trailer has dropped, and it gives us a look at the villain Bushmaster as well as a returning Alfre Woodard as Mariah Dillard.

After clearing his name, Luke Cage has become a celebrity on the streets of Harlem with a reputation as bulletproof as his skin. But being so visible has only increased his need to protect the community and find the limits of who he can and can't save. With the rise of a formidable new foe, Luke is forced to confront the fine line that separates a hero from a villain.

There were actually two Bushmasters in the comics, with the first being a crime boss who went toe-to-toe with Luke, Iron Fist, and Misty Knight. The second Bushmaster—who is the younger brother of the first—will probably be the more memorable one, having a bionic serpent's tail as well as two bionic arms. He's also a founding member of the Serpent Society.

We don't know how faithful the series will be to the comic version of the characters, but seeing that Misty gets a bionic arm in this season, I won't rule out someone turning into a bionic half-snake. I also think it's cool that they brought Iron Fist here to clash with a villain that was originally his.

Catch Luke Cage 2 on Netflix June 22.
