New Aquaman Featurette Takes Us Behind the Scenes

The DCEU may have gone into a hiatus after Justice League, but the franchise is set to make a comeback with Aquaman next month. Marketing is going steady for the film, and we have a new BTS featurette featuring the "amazing worlds" of Aquaman.

If there's one thing that's evident with the movie, WB must have cashed out when it came to bringing Atlantis to life in the big screen. It would be near impossible to shoot an entire movie underwater, so a lot of the efforts went into the CGI to make it look like everyone was underwater. I guess that's also the reason why everyone is wearing tight suits in the film. I imagine it would be a nightmare to have to animate cloth underwater.

It's worth noting that this will be our only franchise with a Justice League member in the spotlight for a long time. The Batman and Flash still in development, we'll have to wait all the way up to 2020 to see another League hero get her film (Wonder Woman 1984). Next year will only feature two DCEU movies—newcomer Shazam! with a Joker movie set outside of the main timeline.

For now, a lot of pressure is on the shoulders of Aquaman to perform well at the box office. So far, the reception has been positive, so it will ultimately be up to audiences to determine whether Aquaman will be a hit or another DC flop.

Arthur Curry learns that he is the heir to the underwater kingdom of Atlantis, and must step forward to lead his people and be a hero to the world.

Catch Aquaman in theaters Dec. 21.
