The star-studded Netflix’s apocalyptic comedy film has made it to the Oscars with 4 nominations, including Best Picture.
The film is directed by Adam Mckay, who’s apparently no stranger to film nominations throughout his career. The director has worked with different veteran actors like Bradd Pitt in The Big Short, Sam Rockwell in Vice, and Paul Rudd in Ant-Man.
In 2021, Mckay was the director of the controversial Netflix film Don’t Look Up and casts different well-known Hollywood stars like Jennifer Lawrence, Leonardo DiCaprio, Timothée Chalamet, Jonah Hill, Kate Blanchett, Ariana Grande, and Meryl Streep.
The film follows two astronomers Dr. Randall (DiCaprio) and Kate (Lawrence) as they tried to convince the whole world that an asteroid will destroy that planet earth. The two were devastated when their claims were not taken seriously by everyone and continued to live as if the threat is not real.
Dr. Randall and Kate continued on warning everyone and even fixing a meeting with the USA President (Meryl Streep) that exposed her ignorant character to the two.
The film also stars Ariana Grande and Kudi, whose breakup is getting more attention than the global destruction threat.
Given the film’s ensemble cast, the film is expected to break records which they did in a matter of days. Don’t Look Up holds Netflix’s record for most viewing hours in the film category and reached 152.29 million viewing hours globally for the week of December 27-January 2.
After its release and breaking Netflix’s most viewing hours record, the film has now conquered different academy bodies. Don’t Look Up is nominated for 4 Golden Globes, 4 BAFTAs, and 5 Critics Choice Awards.
Today, at the 94th Academy Awards, Don’t Look Up has won 4 Oscars nominations in Best Original Screenplay, Best Film Editing, Best Original Picture, and Best Picture.
