Netflix Will Look For Other Developers to Make Stranger Things Video Game After Telltale Shutdown

Now that Telltale Games has folded, fans are wondering about the futures for the various projects that the company had launched. The Walking Dead: The Final Season almost got canceled, but might be saved by other companies who are willing to complete the game. One project that seems to be canceled for good is the Stranger Things game that many people were looking forward to.

The Stranger Things game was announced last June, so many didn't expect to hear about the company's cancelation. Netflix recently reached out to Polygon and revealed that they still have plans to release a game based on the popular series, which should please a lot of fans.

Fans can actually download a free Stranger Things game on their mobile phones, which is a decent enough time waster. However, it's clear that the company want to make something more ambitious, so it will be interesting to see what a new game not made by Telltale will be like.

It's a shame that Telltale is gone since their cinematic style would have been perfect for Stranger Things. The series is currently one of the most popular programs that are showing on Netflix and making it a point-and-click adventure would have made some sense. Now that Telltale isn't in charge, it would be cool to have a horror-like game based on the material.

One neat twist would be to make an Earthbound-like RPG with a similar graphics style. Granted, the game came out in the 90's, so it wouldn't make too much sense since the series is set in the 80's. Having a turn-based battle system with these characters would be a lot of fun, but it will probably be another genre or keep the cinematic point-and-click style mechanics of a game like Stranger Things.

Stranger Things season three does not have a release date, as of this writing.
