Netflix Want to Have Their Own Broad-Audience Film Like Star Wars or Harry Potter

Say what you will about Star Wars or Harry Potter but they definitely have broad-audience appeal. Both franchises have relatable characters, entertaining moments, and some great locations that fans can't get enough of, hence all the fan-fiction. If you own a major film studio, chances are that you want a money-making franchise, which is why no one is surprised about a recent statement from Netflix.

Tendo Nagenda, the VP of Netflix original movies, has told The Hollywood Reporter that they are hoping to make some family-friendly adventure movies in the same vein as the two film franchises mentioned above. This is probably why the company has poured some money on various comic book and video game properties, hoping to get a home run from one of them, if not more.

"We're looking at big, broad-audience, PG-level adventure films as something that we want to get into. Something along the lines of the first Star Wars, or Harry Potter 1 and 2. A lot of family live action, fantasy, spectacle movies that we think are big and can play great. A Jumanji-type of story. That is the next frontier."

Frankly, we don't blame them for wanting a franchise like Star Wars or Harry Potter since that is guaranteed money, whether it's through repeated viewings or merchandise. Both Star Wars and Harry Potter make a ton of money, though not as much as Pokemon apparently, so here's hoping that Netflix succeeds.
