Netflix Plans To Produce 90 Films A Year With Budgets Around $200 Million

Netflix has been providing its subscribers with so many original content over the years that it's been online, and it looks like the streaming service provider plans to up the ante with its original movies.

Speaking with the New York Times during a recent interview, Scott Stuber, Netflix's head of films, decided to open up about the company's plans for creating and releasing movies in 2018 and the years to come.

According to Stuber, Netflix's original plans for its film roster is to supply its site with 55 original films a year. The number comes up to a total of 90 when adding in all the documentaries and animated movies that the company has planned for its roster.

A total of 90 films a year is a pretty big number for any sort of studio. Universal, a studio considered to be one of the most prolific studios in Hollywood, only releases around 30 films every year. This year, Warner Brothers only had 23 films. Disney only had nine. If anything, Netflix outdoes everyone else with its production – though many of the other competing studios have a much higher budget and a much bigger production compared to films from the streaming company.

Still, Netflix won't be beat, saying that some of those films have budgets as much as $200 million. However, the company doesn't specify which film was given that kind of money for its production.

Of course, not all of the 90 films that Netflix has produced for 2018 has stood out, though there are many that have gained a lot of traction on the site like films like To All The Boys I've Loved Before and The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society.
