After years of rejections and development limbo, Netflix has ordered Locke and Key as a series. Based on the popular IDW comic book from Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez, it will now have a 10-episode first season. Should it do well, we could get more seasons but let's not get ahead of ourselves.
Deadline revealed that Netflix is requiring a reshoot of the pilot episode but it seems like the series is good to go afterward. It's a bit of a shame since Hill himself wrote the pilot episode so that's a bit disappointing. Still, if the series is in good hands this reshot pilot episode shouldn't be a problem.
It director Andy Muschietti directed the original pilot but will not direct the new one required by Netflix. However, he will still serve as the series' producer, though he won't be able to direct any other episodes since It: Chapter Two has started production. Fans of the movie will probably be happy to know that Muschietti is involved in some capacity.
Locke & Key, written by Hill, is a horror/fantasy series that revolves around three siblings who, after the gruesome murder of their father, move to their ancestral home in Massachusetts only to find the house has magical keys that give them a vast array of powers and abilities. Little do they know, a devious demon also wants the keys, and will stop at nothing to attain them.
No release date for the series has been announced.
