Netflix Executive Teases More Addams Family Spin-Offs to Follow Wednesday

The Addams family is one of the most iconic families on the big screen, especially if people are talking about the most peculiar one. Wednesday Addams might be the most popular and well-loved member of the family. Following the success of her own Netflix spin-off, Wednesday, starring Jenna Ortega, the streaming platform is in a position to helm more spin-offs centered on the rest of her family.

During an interview with Vulture, Peter Friedlander, the Head of Scripted Series in the US and Canada for Netflix, teased about the future of the series and responded to the question of expanding The Addams Family on the platform by releasing more spin-offs. He said, “I wish I could tell you more. I'm optimistic but have nothing to say right now.” When the interviewer followed up by asking if he'd like to have ‘more,’ Friedlander replied, “I would.”

The executive also went on to speak about the growing success of Wednesday and why it appears to be so appealing to the audience. He commented, “We're still learning from the success of it and unpacking it. It's funny – people do talk about the YA audience, but I think that's probably too simplistic because of the diversity of tastes within that demographic...I don't know that I can identify one thing. I do feel like it's firing on all cylinders.”

Wednesday, created by Tim Burton, centers on Wednesday Addams (Ortega), the oldest child in the family who has a fixation for torture. The eighth episode follows her time at the boarding school for outcasts. The series landed on Netflix on November 23rd and has been breaking and setting records ever since. Currently, it holds the streaming giant's second-most-watched show behind Stranger Things Season 4, also surpassing other series hits, Dahmer—Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, and Bridgerton.

Given the wild success of the series, fans are demanding an immediate renewal for season two. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but the audience and showrunners are quite optimistic that Wednesday will have more chances to expand her narrative. In another interview, Friedlander told Variety, “I have nothing to confirm at this time. I am optimistic about Wednesday. We’ll leave it at that.”
