The NC-17 rating has been given to Netflix's Blonde which makes it a controversial film since it would be the very first one to get such a rating on Netflix which stars Ana De Armas as the titular character based on the novel of Joyce Carol Oates dealing with the private life of Marilyn Monroe in fiction.

However, for Ana De Armas, she does not agree that Blonde should have an NC-17 rating. She shared to The Hollywood Reporter, "I didn't understand why that happened. I can tell you a number of shows or movies that are way more explicit with a lot more sexual content than Blonde."

De Armas added, "To tell this story, it is important to show all these moments in Marilyn's life that made her end up the way that she did. It needed to be explained. Everyone knew we had to go to uncomfortable places. I wasn't the only one."

An NC-17 rating from the Motion Picture Association of America means that no one under the age of 17 shall be admitted or allowed to see the movie given the said rating which may have some violence, language, nudity, or sex in the scenes. This replaced the previous X rating.

With Blonde featuring the private life of Marilyn Monroe in fiction, it is expected to have explicit scenes and tackle sensitive topics like drug abuse, abortion, graphic sex, nudity, and more.

Netflix’s Blonde stars Ana de Armas as Marilyn Monroe, Adrien Brody as Arthur Miller, Bobby Cannavale as Joe DiMaggio, Caspar Phillipson as John F. Kennedy, Julianne Nicholson as Gladys Pearl Baker, Xavier Samuel as Charles Chaplin Jr., Luke Whoriskey as James Dean, Michael Masini as Tony Curtis, Sara Paxton as Miss Flynn, and more.

Netflix’s Blonde arrives on Netflix on September 28, 2022. Directed by Andrew Dominik, Blonde will be participating in this year's Venice Film Festival.
