Morbius Star Feels Confident About a Sequel Despite The Film's Disheartening Reviews

While Sony enjoys the success of last year's box office run of Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Spiderman: No Way Home, which now sits as the third highest-grossing film at the domestic box office, Sony is now crafting a bigger Spiderman universe that will include Jared Leto's upcoming Morbius.

After being delayed multiple times due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, Sony announced that Morbius is finally slated for 2022 following Spiderman: No Way Home. While this was a highly-anticipated film for Marvel fans, unfortunately, even before Morbius' release, the film is currently receiving disheartening reviews from the audience and critics from the early screenings. The film left fans disappointed, and some are calling it "as bad as you were expecting." But the bad news doesn't end there.

A piece of leaked information from Morbius' post-credit swirled around the internet when the film hasn't been released in the theaters yet, teasing a crossover with Spiderman: Homecoming’s The Vulture.

However, Morbius star Matt Smith, who will be starring as Loxias Crown in the film still believes that the possibility of multiple sequels remains positive, despite the early screening’s negative reviews.

Speaking to Digital Spy, Matt Smith explained, "It's a new Marvel character for them to sink their teeth into, as it were. I'm sure Michael Morbius will be one that will keep returning, so hopefully it opens up a new world which will continue in multiple films beyond this."

The actor admitted in a recent interview that he is confused with his character as Loxias Crown. Nevertheless, the actor still encouraged people to see Morbius, "We made it yonks (ages) ago, I can't actually believe it's coming out to be honest with you. I am excited for people to see it. I hope people enjoy it and I hope people go to the cinema to see it as well, because it's, you know, a movie."

The box-office receipts will dictate if Sony will develop more appearances for Morbius. Fortunately, Sony has no plans in doing a one-and-done ordeal. Sony predicts a $50 Million range after its debut and is expected to easily get back the film's $75 Million budget after several weeks.

Being an inch away from Morbius' theatrical release, we will witness Jared Leto's debut in the MCU as the Living Vampire. Morbius is reportedly another addition to Sony's expanding Spider-Verse that includes several Sony upcoming films like Madame Web and Kraven: The Hunter.

Morbius will hit the big screens on April 1.
