Morbius: Jared Leto Film Confirmed As Immediate Follow-up To Venom

We're still waiting for the premiere of Venom. However, Sony is already working on the next comic book movie that will focus on a Spider-Man villain. Not surprisingly, the next project is none other than Jared Leto's Morbius film.

Matt Tolmach and Avi Arad recently spoke to ComicBook.com about their next project. The Venom producers admitted that the Morbius movie is almost ready to begin production.

"We're obviously working on Morbius now. That's sort of next up for us," Tolmach revealed.

This is certainly good news for fans who have been hoping to see Leto back in action as soon as possible. Although the production date has not yet been revealed, Tolmach admitted that he is expecting "awesomeness" from the Suicide Squad star when they start filming. "Just a similar level of intensity and charisma and devotion to the character," he said.

Arad also revealed that Leto is "loving the character," something that Tolmach concurred. Considering the Academy Award winner's affinity for going full Method to get into his role, there is little doubt that Leto will turn in an astounding performance as the Spider-Man villain known as "The Living Vampire."

Sony is certainly taking a different direction by producing movies that focus on established Spider-Man villains. We're betting that it has a lot to do with Arad's statement admitting they had made a mistake by forcing Venom's introduction in Spider-Man 3. The producer took full responsibility for the error, stating that he had forced director Sam Raimi to add the character into the sequel. Luckily, it looks like they have learned from their mistake.

Venom and Morbius aren't the only Spider-Man villains who will be getting their own standalone film. A Kraven the Hunter movie is also being planned although there have been no updates yet on the project.

The Morbius release date has not yet been announced. Venom will hit theaters on October 5.
