Moon Knight Episode 5 Ending Explained

Moon Knight Episode 5, Asylum, has takes us to a trip down memory lane as Marc and Steven journeys into the Realm of the Duat, the Egyptian counterpart of the underworld, and Taweret guides them through afterlife. With their hearts put on the Scales of Justice opposite the Feather of Truth, it would not stabilize and balance so they have to tell each other the truth they are hiding.

It turns out Marc has a really painful past dealing with the loss of his brother and being blamed by his very own mother for it. That made him create Steven to cope up with what he is dealing with. After the loss of Marc’s mother, that is when Steven and Marc’s life bled out onto each other with both of them trying to cope up with the situation.

By the end of their journey, the balance is still not stable and Taweret declared that the unbalanced souls from the Duat will be claiming them. True enough, it did, with the people Marc killed as the avatar of Khonshu trying to bring them to the sands and have them frozen in stone forever. However, it was Steven who paid the price as he saved Marc from one of the souls.

Steven gets frozen in sand and the balance finally stabilized, thus, the gates of Osiris finally opened up to Marc, leading him into the Field of Reeds, where he would plea to have his life back to stop Ammit’s rage and Harrow’s plans.

See, Steven turns out to be the good within Marc, his anchor that there is some bright light at the end of the horizon. Steven even convinces Marc that he is not responsible for his brother’s death and he should not be blamed for it because he was just a kid, then, too. With Steven’s demise, Marc is at the Field of Reeds with the pain of losing the person he dreamed to be.

As Taweret said, once taken by the unbalanced souls of the Duat, those frozen in sand will forever remain there. It seems that it is finally a goodbye to Steven and with his loss, this could make Marc more determined to stop Harrow and Ammit, bring Khonshu back to life, and maybe, just maybe, he could bring back Steven.

With the plans of Harrow coming to life, surely, the Ennead council is expected to be back and hopefully, they would realize that they should have listened to Khonshu in the first place. Given that there are still scenes from the various teasers that are yet to appear in the series where he dons the Moon Knight suit, it only implies that Khonshu will be back in his life.

Moon Knight Episode 5 is now streaming on Disney Plus.
