From the start of the show, Moon in the Day explains what happened in the past that led to the unfortunate event. The first episode leads us to 1,500 years ago when The Great Gaya betrayed Silla. The king ordered his men to attack the Gaya general to end the infernal war.

Unfortunately, the lead stars of the show are affected by this event as this was how their ill-fated lives became bound to each other. The warrior ordered to kill the general, is none other than Do-ha (played by Kim Young-dae).

Sadly, the general that Do-ha killed is Han Ri-ta's (played by Pyo Ye-jin) father. She watched as Do-ha executed the other members of his family. From that moment on, Ri-ta swore that she would avenge them.

She then proceeds to try and kill him, but he manages to escape. When she finally does get an opportunity, she fails since Do-ha has been expecting her. He asks her to choose between death or servitude. She chooses the latter.

Despite the next series of events, Ri-ta's overwhelming rage to avenge her fallen family controls her. Even though she has already started to fall in love with Do-ha, she kills him.

Even though Ri-ta's family was able to hide her before their doomed fate, it looks like Do-ha knew who she was all along.

When Do-ha hanged the general and his family, he saw Ri-ta in the crowd and likely connected the dots. Plus, he expected her to come for him, which suggests he already knew who Ri-ta was.

Despite these, he offered to keep her alive. He fell in love with her even though he knew she could kill him at any time. And true enough, this is what happened.

It's possible that Ri-ta could have started to gain feelings for Do-ha. But unfortunately, her strong desire for revenge took control of her. And this is pretty understandable, after all, he murdered her family in front of her.

It wasn't really personal for Do-ha since he was simply following the king's orders. But it destroyed Ri-ta, so much so that she took her own life after his death.

The big question now is will Ri-ta's present reincarnation, Kang Young-hwa, fall in love with the Do-ha-possessed Han Jun-oh? This is something we'll have to wait for.
