Monster Season 2 is coming and will follow the Menendez brothers’ case of murdering their parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez, in their Beverly Hills home. As the new season tells another heavily-covered trial, these four important, shocking details should make it to the show.

The show’s first season, Monster – Dahmer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, was a huge success, resulting in its renewal and turning it into a true-crime anthology series. But as Monster Season 2 will feature two convicted this time, its title is pluralized to Monsters: The Lyle and Erick Menendez Story.

So, here are the four important key plots that fans need to see in the series.

Jose Menendez’s Affair

On a list made by Screen Rant, it noted that the family’s patriarch was having an affair, which his sons and wife knew about.

The infidelity took its toll on Kitty, making her increasingly depressed and irritable. Lyle and Erick revealed that their mother “regretted everything she could’ve become,” resulting in an abusive rage.

The affair proved that Jose and Kitty’s perfect relationship was just a show. In reality, their marriage was broken, and Kitty was miserable.

The siblings said they killed their mom to “put her out of her misery.”

Jose Menendez’s Abusive Ways

Aside from having an affair, Jose was described as abusive by his employees, usually belittling them.

He was said to be “charming and intelligent” when unprovoked, but he yelled at his employees behind closed doors, creating a toxic environment and making his people scared to go to work.

His family also experienced these abusive ways. He had high expectations for his sons, especially for the eldest, Lyle.

In addition, Jose also reportedly physically and sexually abused his kids.

The Death of Jose and Kitty

Of course, the death of Jose and Kitty would be featured in Monster Season 2.

The couple was gunned down in their living room by their sons. After the crime, Lyle called 911 to report that someone had killed his parents on August 20, 1989.

The father was shot six times, while Kitty was shot ten times by a shotgun.

Though the police didn’t suspect the boys committed the crime, the non-evidence of breaking and entering proved it wasn’t a robbery.

The Menendez Brothers’ Confession

Erick first confessed to the murder to his psychologist, Jerome Oziel, after feeling the guilt. He then threatened to kill the therapist if he told anyone about it.

He was confident Oziel would never tell anyone due to the doctor-patient confidentiality. However, Oziel’s mistress, Judalon Smith, told the police about it.

The authorities then confessed the therapy tapes from Ozie and Erik’s sessions, though it was ruled admissible in court because Lyle threatened Oziel, violating the doctor-patient privilege.

Come 1993, the Menendez brothers shockingly confessed to the murder of their parents on a televised trial.

However, defense attorney Leslie Abramson argued they only killed their parents to defend themselves after a lifetime of abuse. But others believed they did it because Kitty was about to cut them off the will.
