The Spanish crime thriller Money Heist (La Casa de Papel) may have finished its story last December, but series creator Alex Pina has renewed his deal with Netflix, and it's already working on his next project for the streaming service, according to Deadline.
Pina, who also created White Lines and Sky Rojo for Netflix, is also currently working on a Money Heist spinoff centered around Andrés "Berlin" de Fonollosa (played by Pedro Alonso). However, his latest project is completely different from what he's worked on before.
What is the pandemic-inspired Netflix series that the Money Heist creator is working on?
According to the report, Pina's untitled next Netflix project was inspired by a Spanish newspaper article about the increase of purchasing bunkers after the pandemic. That's about all that we know so far about the Money Heist creator's next project.
Pina said that Netflix allowed him to produce “risky and different projects, which have been written with total freedom.”
“This new stage is an extension of trust as we stand alongside some of the most important creators of contemporary fiction and bridge the gaps that have existed until very recently between North America and the rest of the world,” he continued.
It sounds like Pina's next project will be inspired by the COVID-19 pandemic, but at this point, it's unclear how much it will reflect reality.

Diego Ávalos, Netflix’s VP Content Spain and Portugal, shared a statement: “Pina is an innovative and creative storyteller who has inspired fans and aspiring creators around the world. After the great adventure that has been Money Heist, we are very excited to remain a home for him.”
Netflix is also planning to release the South Korean version of Money Heist, titled Money Heist: Korea - Joint Economic Area, but Pina is directly not involved with that upcoming k-drama.
