MODOK was Originally Set to Appear in Agents of SHIELD

After seven seasons, Agents of SHIELD has finally ended, and fans are sad to see the end of Phil Coulson's story along with the rest of his crew. We know that the show has a very limited number of characters they can play with, but one villain was supposed to be the big bad that was pulled in the last-minute by the big studio.

Talking to AV Club, EP Jeffrey Bell reveals that there were plans to have MODOK (Mechanized Organism Designed Only for Killing) appear on the show. He says, "We were given the green light originally to use certain characters from Marvel, and started to break story based on those characters—[Coughs.] MODOK—and then they retracted it."

Though Bell didn't give any specific explanation as to why the character was pulled out, it's very possible that Marvel has some big plans for him studio-wise. Even on the DC side of things, characters are usually pulled back from the small screen because the movie studios want to use them for a film. I guess the only big exception was Flash, but even then it's taking a while for the Flash to get his own solo movie.

As for MODOK's appearance, he's going to be one of the main villains in the upcoming Avengers game from Square Enix. While this is a completely different property, I think Marvel is planning the game to introduce some new faces, specifically Kamala Khan a.k.a. Ms. Marvel. It's possible MODOK could appear in a film down the line. We don't know which one, but I think he would be a great choice for an Ant-Man film, seeing as how wacky MODOK is as a villain.

He may not have appeared in Agents of SHIELD, but MODOK is going to be the big bad of Avengers: A-Day which comes out Sept. 4.
