Minecraft Getting New Spin-off Game Called 'Minecraft: Dungeons'

Minecraft continues to be one of the most popular video games out right now, with numerous updates that have added skins from various entertainment properties and a number of new tools to play with. Considering how big the game is, it's surprising to see only one spinoff game right now in Minecraft: Story Mode. After many years, we finally have a second spinoff and it actually looks promising.

During MINECON Earth 2018, a new game called Minecraft: Dungeons was announced. This is a hack-and-slash game that lets players take on dungeons by themselves, or with a group of players. This should be a fun twist on the Minecraft formula and get those uninterested in the Minecraft series to give this a chance.

While a trailer was shown, it didn't reveal any gameplay so it's hard to compare it to the original game. The original let you hack-and-slash in first-person so it would be cool if this game gave you the option to switch to a third-person camera or an overhead one like in Diablo. It is a hack-and-slash game after all and what other franchise should it pay respect to?

The developers in Mojang have described it as "an all-new action-adventure game inspired by classic dungeon crawlers, where you'll constantly discover new weapons and items that will help you defeat a ruthless swarm of new-and-nasty mobs."

Minecraft: Dungeons is expected to come out sometime next year. No specific release date was announced.
