DC fans were equally disappointed and intrigued after learning that Michelle Borth will no longer be playing Mary Bromfield's superhero alter-ego Mary Marvel in Shazam! Fury of the Gods. After unveiling the official look of the Shazam family donning their new suits, director David F. Sandberg confirmed that Borth has been replaced by Grace Fulton who will now pull double duty in the franchise.

The initial belief was that age played a huge factor in Borth getting recast in the project but it's worth noting that the other Shazam family cast members — Zachary Levi, Adam Brody, D.J. Cotrona, and Meaghan Good are between the ages of 39 and 41 so the argument makes absolutely no sense.

Now, according to Pajiba contributor Brian Richards, Michelle was actually fired from the sequel due to her political views. Richards pointed out that Michelle's post from earlier this year mourning the death of Ashli Babbitt, the woman killed in the Capitol Protests last January was one of the reasons that contributed to her Fury of the Gods firing. Babbitt is deemed by many Americans as a domestic terrorist so naturally, siding with her put Borth in a bad light.

Of course, Richards' claims are still baseless at this point so take it with a grain of salt. As of writing, Borth has yet to break her silence regarding the matter but it's worth noting that she took to Instagram to express her excitement over Fulton playing a dual role in the upcoming Shazam! sequel so I'm guessing there's no actual beef between the two.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods will hit cinemas in 2023.
