Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution Merchandise Reveals Major Throwback to First Pokemon Movie

The details for Pokemon The Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution are currently slim-to-none. The only thing known is the fact that it's set after The Power of Us. While the film is a part of the same universe as I Choose You and The Power of Us, it looks to take elements from the original Mewtwo Strikes Back, with the teaser showing an epic CGI stare down between Mew and Mewtwo.

Now, thanks to some leaked merchandise, we now know that the remake will pay tribute to Pokemon: The First Movie in more ways than having the same characters. Due to some leaks, fans now know that the special Pokeball Mewtwo made for his clone Pokemon will be in the film, which is a huge hint that these duplicates will be a big part of this story again.

Here is hoping that the film doesn't pay too much tribute to the first film since it also killed Ash and brought him back in the most ridiculous way. Seriously, Ash was turned into stone and the Pokemon's tears brought him back to life. At least I Choose You had Ho-Oh bring him back to life, as the film teased this aspect of the legendary Pokemon throughout the story.

Pokemon The Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution is scheduled to premiere in Japan this July. Fans can currently stream the predecessor of this film, The Power of Us, on select digital services. They can even purchase said movie if they want.
