Metroid Prime 4 Trailer Debuting in The Game Awards?

Remember when Nintendo "won" E3 by showing some games in development, like Metroid Prime 4? Looking back, that was probably hyperbole by fans since we haven't heard anything about that new Metroid game since. We did get the excellent Metroid: Samus Returns on 3DS, which is a grand remake of Metroid 2, but nothing else aside from that.

Could that be changing with this year's Game Awards? If the shirt of Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime means anything, that might just be the case.

Geoff Keighley the host and producer of The Game Awards, tweeted out a picture with himself and Reggie stating "see you in December." Eagle-eyed fans were able to check out the shirt that Reggie was wearing under his vest and they were able to confirm that it has a Metroid design. Could this mean that we'll be getting a Metroid trailer in the show? We'll have to wait and see.

Sure, fans could be overreacting and the shirt could just be a symbol of love for the games, but they have made theories out of worse things. Remember when a Sony representative wore a Crash Bandicoot shirt during a PlayStation show? We eventually got the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, which sold like pancakes and paved the way for more remasters like November's Spyro Reignited Trilogy.

Metroid Prime was a pretty beloved series, so it was pretty disappointing when Nintendo was seemingly done with it. The series was able to keep the series' signature exploration-based gameplay while in first-person, making it a more immersive experience.

They released Metroid: Other M, which brought back the 2D gameplay from older installments but also resulted in one of the worst storylines from the franchise. When you consider that Metroid isn't known for its story, that is saying a lot.

Metroid Prime 4 is coming to the Nintendo Switch. No release date has been announced.
