Even before Meghan Markle joined the royal family upon marrying Prince Harry in 2018, she was already doing volunteer work and helping charities. This even plays a huge part in her relationship with the Duke of Sussex.

The couple volunteers together and does charity work while still working as senior royals and after stepping down in 2020. So, what charities does Meghan have built and helped?

Archewell

After leaving the monarchy in 2020, the Sussexes worked together to launch their nonprofit organization, Archewell.

The org aims to drive "systematic cultural change across all communities."

Prince Archie's Birthday Donations

Prince Harry and Meghan celebrated their son, Prince Archie's second birthday in 2021 by asking anyone who was willing to donate in the child's honor toward healthcare in underserved communities.

"Many of you donate to charities on his behalf and mark the occasion by giving back or doing an act of service — all through the goodness of your hearts," they wrote on Archewell's website. "You raise funds for those who need it the most and continue to do so organically and selflessly. We remain incredibly grateful. … We are inviting you to contribute whatever you can — if you have the means to do so — to bring vaccines to families in the world's most vulnerable places."

Books for All

After the release of her children's book, The Bench, in 2021, Meghan announced she and Prince Harry would donate 2,000 copies of it to schools, libraries, and more.

Archewell also works with First Book nonprofit to distribute the book around the U.S.

World Vision

The former actress also works as a global ambassador for World Vision. In her piece for Time titled How Periods Affect Potential, she discussed how menstruations could hinder a woman's potential if she didn't have the right access to tampons and pads.

She also supported World Vision's Clean Water Campaign in Rwanda in 2016.

A Young World Counsellor

Meghan used to be a Counsellor at One Young World Summits in Dublin, Ireland, in 2014 and Ottawa, Canada, in 2016.

She continuously advocates for women's healthcare around the world as the Duchess of Sussex.

An Advocate for the United Nations

In her article for ELLE UK in 2016, Meghan revealed her experience working with the United Nations.

"I was in a van heading back from Gihembe refugee camp in Rwanda. I was there as an advocate for UN Women; I had a week of meetings with female parliamentarians in the city's capital, Kigali, celebrating the fact that 64 percent of the Rwandan government are women–the first in the world
where women hold a majority," she wrote. "This type of work is what feeds my soul. The degree to which I can do that both on and off camera is a direct perk of my job."
