Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been in the United Kingdom for over a week already. They extended their stay due to the Queen's passing. Initially, they reportedly wanted to stay in "friendly territory", where they would only receive a warm welcome after the frosty reception they faced during the Platinum Jubilee. However, Markle seemingly encountered someone who wasn't a fan of her.
Meghan Markle Ignored And Snubbed By A Royal Fan During The Walkabout
A viral video showed Markle greeting the people who gathered outside Windsor Castle Saturday. Prince Harry, Kate Middleton and Prince William were with him during the sighting. It was their first public reunion after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down from their royal duties in 2020.
The footage showed a woman in a blue shirt who dropped her head and seemingly avoided Markle when she approached. Prince Harry's wife moved on while the woman turned to the person next to her and appeared to smirk.
Several netizens approved of the woman's reaction and even said they would do the same if they were in the area because, for them, Prince Harry and his wife "trashed" his home country. Others even blamed Markle for the treatment she received.
"No matter how important or High Up, Megan Markle THINKS she is. No matter how many World Famous people she encounters, and shakes their hands, she Megan Markle, will never forget the Lady that refused to shake her hand! That Lady has real principles, and genuine sincerity," one commented with thumbs up and smiley emojis.
"This speaks volumes. She needs to go back to California asap. You are truly hated for your disrespect of the UK," another added.
"Well done to this lady. Meghan and Harry have trashed this country and his family. Nobody wanted her or him after the hurt they caused," another commented.
Another said the woman deserved a knighthood for not being a hypocrite. Some also said she was a hero because she did what many would do in front of Markle.
However, some also found the woman's reaction rude and disrespectful. Many believed that the Queen would have preferred if the woman didn't act that way.
"A royal well-wisher snubbing a member of the royal family. I'm sure the Queen would have expected better behavior from someone who was supposedly there to pay their respects to her," one person wrote.
Royal Expert Already Foresaw The Incident, Said Meghan Markle Won't Receive Good Reception From The Public
Prior to the snubbing incident, a 14-year-old hugged Markle to make her feel welcome in the UK, especially amid reported tensions between the Sussexes and the royal family. Royal expert and author Phil Dampier, who wrote several royal books, including Royally Suited: Harry and Meghan in Their Own Words and Diana: I'm going to be me: The People's Princess Revealed in Her Words, weighed in on the reception Markle received when she delivered the keynote speech at the One Young World Summit where she received a warm welcome.
"She was clearly among friends, and the young audience was clearly on her side. They were applauding fairly dull remarks that she was a wife and mother," Dampier told Mail Online. "But in terms of what she was actually saying, I haven't a clue."
He added, "If she met most members of the public in the U.K., she wouldn't get good reception, but on stage with an audience that tends to be on her side - or is inclined to support her - she could get away saying very little and being applauded for it."
