King Charles and the royals are reportedly at odds with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The British monarch also reportedly felt betrayed by his daughter-in-law's hurtful interviews.

King Charles Reportedly Felt Betrayed By Meghan Markle

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were in the United Kingdom when the Queen passed away. They only intended to stay in the U.K. for less than a week but extended it throughout the mourning period until the Queen's funeral on Sept. 19.

Markle talked about the Queen's funeral in her interview with Variety. She said it was a "difficult time" and even reflected on her relationship with the late monarch.

According to royal expert Christopher Andersen, Markle's commentary put a damper on the royal transition.

"I think — as far as the Charles is concerned, specifically — you know, he feels betrayed," the Brothers and Wives author told Us Weekly Wednesday. "I mean, he really was very fond of her. And I think he's somewhat bewildered."

King Charles offered to walk Markle down the aisle when her dad, Thomas Markle Sr., decided to cancel his attendance at the royal wedding. He also reportedly has a personal nickname for Markle.

"Charles reportedly nicknamed his future daughter-in-law 'Tungsten' because of her toughness and resilience," royal expert Katie Nicholl wrote in her new Book The New Royals, Entertainment Tonight reported.

Andersen added that the Queen was used to handling Prince Harry and Markle's behavior. However, King Charles is still "finding his footing."

"I don't think it threw her as much as it has thrown at Charles, and understandably so, because this is his son and the daughter-in-law who … [have] said some pretty hurtful things," Andersen added.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle did several interviews after they stepped back from their royal duties in 2020. Nicholl previously said that the royal couple is not afraid to be critical of the institution.

Days before Queen Elizabeth's death, Markle's interview with The Cut was published. During the chat, she said that Prince Harry "lost" his father.

"Harry said to me, 'I lost my dad in this process.' It doesn't have to be the same for them as it was for me, but that's his decision," Markle said.

Some sources claimed her interview was one of the reasons she wasn't invited to Queen Elizabeth's deathbed. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced that they were both flying to Scotland at the time.

However, Prince Harry arrived in Balmoral alone hours after the Queen's death. Sources claimed that the tensions were high and the royals didn't want Markle there.

"Tensions were so high and there was no way Meghan could have gone to Balmoral," an unnamed "highly-placed" palace source told New York Post's Page Six.
