The Medalist anime was revealed a few months ago, but not a lot of details were shared at the time. Now, it’s revealed that an Oshi no Ko VA is joining the Medalist anime’s cast.

Medalist recently revealed its two main voice cast members alongside the release of new character images and a key visual.

On top of this, the highly anticipated series also revealed some key staff members over at studio ENGI. From the looks of it, this show has all the makings of a hit.

Oshi no Ko’s Aqua Hoshino VA Cast as Medalist Main Character

Medalist is an upcoming anime that’s based on the acclaimed manga series of the same name by Tsurumaikada.

The manga is serialized in Monthly Afternoon, the same magazine as popular titles like Vinland Saga, Blue Period, and Land of the Lustrous. Thus, it’s a seinen story that sports anime and manga fans may want to check out.

Fans will likely need to wait a bit longer for a new trailer to be released. But at least, a trailer reveal might be on the horizon given that new information has just been revealed.

Specifically, it was announced that Takeo Otsuka will voice Tsukasa Akeuraji, one of the show’s main characters. Otsuka is best known for voicing Aqua Hoshino in Oshi no Ko. He will also voice Jinshi in The Apothecary Diaries.

Otsuka is joined by Natsumi Haruse, a rookie VA who voiced Kaoru Ryuzaki in THE IDOLM@STER CINDERELLA GIRLS.

Medalist Is Shaping Up to Be One of 2024’s Must-Watch Anime

It’s fair to say that anime adaptations of Monthly Afternoon manga are typically unique and interesting. For instance, Skip and Loafer was a highlight of Spring 23 as it is far from your typical rom-com anime.

Then there’s Heavenly Delusion, another Spring 23 anime with impressive animation and an intriguing central mystery.

Medalist is no different as it is a sports drama series that is more serious than a typical shonen sports title.

In fact, the manga has been praised by critics, not to mention that it won the 68th Shogakukan Manga Award.

What also makes it a must-watch is its staff, which is led by veteran director Yasuka Yamamoto (Servant x Service) at the anime studio ENGI.

Currently, there’s no word yet on a release date for the anime, though it’s likely going to premiere sometime in 2024.
